Une soeur a sister. Une soeur short film. Une soeur en or. This was an excellent, very well made exciting short film, which makes you sit on the edge of your seat. The dialogues and the performances were all convincing and the ending was cathartic. But unfortunately this movie is kind of a copy paste of a great danish movie called "The Guilty. If that movie didn't exist I would give this one a 10/10 rating, but the plot is so similar to "The Guilty" that it couldn't surprise me despite it's great presentation. Still I think this is the best of the Oscar nominated live action short films this year this year (I haven't seen SARIA yet.
P.S.: I didn't spoil "The Guilty" watch that if you liked this.

A pardon is a government decision to allow a person to be relieved of some or all of the legal consequences resulting from a criminal conviction. A pardon may be granted before or after conviction for the crime, depending on the laws of the jurisdiction. [1] [2] Pardons can be granted in many countries when individuals are deemed to have demonstrated that they have "paid their debt to society", or are otherwise considered to be deserving of them. Pardons are sometimes offered to persons who were either wrongfully convicted or who claim that they were wrongfully convicted. In some jurisdictions of some nations, accepting a pardon may implicitly constitute an admission of guilt; the offer is refused in some cases. Cases of wrongful conviction are in recent times more often dealt with by appeal rather than by pardon; however, a pardon is sometimes offered when innocence is undisputed in order to avoid the costs that are associated with a retrial. Clemency plays a critical role when capital punishment is applied. Pardons are sometimes seen as a mechanism for combating corruption, allowing a particular authority to circumvent a flawed judicial process to free someone that is seen as wrongly convicted. Pardons can also be a source of controversy. In extreme cases, some pardons may be seen as acts of corruption by officials in the form of granting effective immunity as political favors. By country [ edit] Australia [ edit] In Australia, the traditional pardon power is referred to as the royal prerogative of mercy, [3] an executive power that is vested in the Queen and may be exercised by the Governor-General. [4] The prerogative of mercy is a broad discretionary power that may be exercised by a state governor who is acting on the advice of the state executive council and the state attorney general. [5] Courts in Australia may also exercise their traditional power to exercise mercy when the circumstances of the defendant or offense warrant relief. [6] In addition to the prerogative of mercy, Australia has passed legislation that creates additional avenues to seek a pardon, exoneration, reduced sentence, [7] or conditional release. [8] [9] Canada [ edit] Pardons [ edit] The Parole Board of Canada (PBC) is the federal agency responsible for making pardon decisions under the Criminal Records Act (CRA). Under the CRA, the PBC can issue, grant, deny, and revoke pardons. In 2012, the Parliament of Canada passed the Safe Streets and Communities Act, [10] which changed many of elements regarding the criminal justice system. The Act replaced the term "pardon" with "record suspension", [11] and the pardon system was similarly changed. [12] A pardon keeps the police record of a conviction separate and apart from other criminal records, and gives law-abiding citizens an opportunity to reintegrate into Canadian society. The RCMP removes all information about the conviction for which an individual received the pardon from the Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC). Federal agencies cannot give out information about the conviction without approval from the Minister of Public Safety Canada. A pardon does not, however, erase the fact that an individual was convicted of a crime. The criminal record is not erased, but it is kept separate and apart from other (non-pardoned) criminal records. A pardon removes disqualifications caused by a criminal conviction, such as the ability to contract with the federal government, or eligibility for Canadian citizenship. If an individual in receipt of a pardon is convicted of a new offence, the information may lead to a reactivation of the criminal record for which the pardon was received in CPIC. A pardon does not guarantee entry or visa privileges to another country. Before travelling to another country, individuals must still contact the authorities of the country in question to find out what the requirements are to enter that country. Processing of pardons by the Parole Board of Canada generally takes six months for a summary offence and twelve months for an indictable offence. If the Parole Board proposes to deny the application, it can take 24 months to process. [13] Individuals can apply for a pardon if they were convicted as an adult of a criminal offense in Canada, or of an offense under a federal act or regulation of Canada, or if they were convicted of a crime in another country and were transferred to Canada under the Transfer of Offenders Act or International Transfer of Offenders Act. Non-Canadian citizens are not eligible for a Canadian pardon unless they were convicted of a crime in Canada. To be eligible for a pardon or record suspension, individuals must have completed all of their sentences and a waiting period. Individuals are considered to have completed all of their sentences if they have: Paid all fines, surcharges, costs, restitution and compensation orders Served all sentences of imprisonment, conditional sentences, including parole or statutory release Completed their probation order Prior to 2012, following completion of all of their sentences, individuals must have completed a waiting period, as follows: Three years for summary convictions under the Criminal Code or other federal act or regulation, except sexual crimes against children Three years under the National Defence Act, if fined $2, 000 or less, detained or imprisoned six months or less, or subjected to various lesser punishments for a service offence Five years for indictable convictions under the Criminal Code or other federal act or regulation and summary convictions of sexual crimes against children Five years for all convictions by a Canadian offender transferred to Canada under the Transfer of Offenders Act or International Transfer of Offenders Act Five years under the National Defence Act, if you were fined more than $2, 000, detained or imprisoned more than six months, or dismissed from service Ten years for indictable convictions for sexual crimes against children and criminals receiving more than two years of imprisonment time for "serious personal injury offence" such as manslaughter or other designated offence under section 752 of the Criminal Code. [14] Effective 13 March 2012, the eligibility criteria and waiting periods changed: Five years for summary convictions under the Criminal Code or other federal act or regulation, except sexual crimes against children Five years under the National Defence Act, if fined $2, 000 or less, detained or imprisoned six months or less, or subjected to various lesser punishments for a service offence Ten years for indictable convictions under the Criminal Code or other federal act or regulation and summary convictions of sexual crimes against children Ten years for all convictions by a Canadian offender transferred to Canada under the Transfer of Offenders Act or International Transfer of Offenders Act Ten years under the National Defence Act, if fined more than $2, 000, detained or imprisoned more than six months, or dismissed from service "Not Eligible" for indictable convictions for sexual crimes against children (Schedule 1 Offence under CRA) "Not Eligible" for criminals with more than three offences prosecuted by indictment, each with a prison sentence of two or more years. [15] Applicants for a record suspension must be able to show that they have completed their sentences in full and provide proof of payment. [16] Individuals can apply for a pardon by filling out the application forms available from the Parole Board and by paying a $631 pardon application fee. [17] Clemency [ edit] In Canada, clemency is granted by the Governor-General of Canada or the Governor in Council (the federal cabinet) under the royal prerogative of mercy. Applications are also made to the National Parole Board, as in pardons, but clemency may involve the commutation of a sentence, or the remission of all or part of the sentence, a respite from the sentence (for a medical condition) or a relief from a prohibition (e. g., to allow someone to drive who has been prohibited from driving). Chile [ edit] In Chile, the institution of pardon ( indulto) is regulated in the Criminal Code (article 93, Nº 4º), [18] which deals with the extinction of criminal liability. A pardon "only grants the remission or the commutation of the sentence; it does not remove the condition of having been condemned". The pardon may be either general, when it is granted to all those covered by a specific law passed by qualified quorum in National Congress, or particular, when it is granted by Supreme Decree of the President of the Republic. In Chile's presidential regime, the President is the Head of State; in this capacity, he or she has the discretionary power to grant particular pardons. He or she is not obliged to seek opinion or approval from other authorities, although, the granting of pardons is limited by the norms of Law No. 18. 050 (1981), [19] and its Regulations (Decree No. 1542 of 1981 on particular pardons), [20] which forbid particular pardons for those convicted of a crime of terrorism. [21] Egypt [ edit] On September 23, 2015, Al Jazeera journalists, Canadian Mohamed Fahmy and Egyptian Baher Mohamed, were among 100 activists released from prison after Egyptian president Abdel Fattah el-Sisi issued a pardon which he announced on his Facebook page. This marks the occasion of Eid al-Adha and the President's visit to the 70th session of the United Nations General Assembly which will take place later this week. The Al Jazeera Media Network has welcomed their release but continues to demand all charges and sentences against its journalists are dropped. [22] France [ edit] Pardons and acts of clemency ( grâces) are granted by the President of France, who, ultimately, is the sole judge of the propriety of the measure. It is a prerogative of the President which is directly inherited from that of the Kings of France. The convicted person sends a request for pardon to the President of the Republic. The prosecutor of the court that pronounced the verdict reports on the case, and the case goes to the Ministry of Justice 's directorate of criminal affairs and pardons for further consideration. If granted, the decree of pardon is signed by the President, the Prime Minister, the Minister of Justice, and possibly other ministers involved in the consideration of the case. It is not published in the Journal Officiel. The decree may spare the applicant from serving the balance of his or her sentence, or commute the sentence to a lesser one. It does not suppress the right for the victim of the crime to obtain compensation for the damages it suffered, and does not erase the condemnation from the criminal record. When the death penalty was in force in France, all capital sentences resulted in a presidential review for a possible clemency. Executions were carried out if and only if the President rejected clemency, by signing a document on which it was written: "decides to let justice take its course". The Parliament of France, on occasions, grants amnesty. This is a different concept and procedure from that described above, although the phrase "presidential amnesty" ( amnistie présidentielle) is sometimes pejoratively applied to some acts of parliament traditionally voted upon after a presidential election, granting amnesty for minor crimes. Germany [ edit] Similar to the United States, the right to grant pardon in Germany is divided between the federal and the state level. Federal jurisdiction in matters of criminal law is mostly restricted to appeals against decisions of state courts. Only "political" crimes like treason or terrorism are tried on behalf of the federal government by the highest state courts. Accordingly, the category of persons eligible for a federal pardon is rather narrow. The right to grant a federal pardon lies in the office of the President of Germany, but he or she can transfer this power to other persons, such as the chancellor or the minister of justice. In early 2007, there was a widespread public discussion about the granting of pardons in Germany after convicted Red Army Faction terrorist Christian Klar, who was serving six consecutive sentences of life imprisonment, filed a petition for pardon. President Horst Köhler ultimately denied his request. For all other (and therefore the vast majority of) convicts, pardons are in the jurisdiction of the states. In some states it is granted by the respective cabinet, but in most states the state constitution vests the authority in the state prime minister. As on the federal level, the authority may be transferred. Amnesty can be granted only by federal law. Greece [ edit] The Constitution of Greece grants the power of pardon to the President of the Republic (Art. 47, § 1). He/She can pardon, commute or remit punishment imposed by any court, on the proposal of the Minister of Justice and after receiving the opinion (not the consent necessarily) of the Pardon Committee. Hong Kong [ edit] Prior to the transfer of the sovereignty in 1997, the power of pardon was the royal prerogative of mercy of the monarch of the United Kingdom. This was used and cited the most often in cases of convicts who had been given the death penalty: from 1965 to 1993 (when the death penalty was formally abolished) death sentences were automatically commuted to life imprisonment under the royal prerogative. Since the transfer, the Chief Executive of Hong Kong now exercises the power to grant pardons and commute penalties under section 12 of article 48 Basic Law of Hong Kong. "The Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region shall exercise the following powers and functions... to pardon persons convicted of criminal offences or commute their penalties". India [ edit] Under the Constitution of India (Article 72), the President of India can grant a pardon or reduce the sentence of a convicted person, particularly in cases involving capital punishment. A similar and parallel power vests in the governors of each state under Article 161. The Constitution of India vests sovereign power in the president and governors. The governance in the centre and states is carried out in the name of the president and governor respectively. The president is empowered with the power to pardon under Article 72 of the Indian Constitution. Article 72 says that the president shall have the power to grant pardons, reprieves, respites or remissions of punishment or to suspend, remit or commute the sentence of any person convicted of any offence. The meaning of these terms is as follows: The pardoning powers of the Indian President are elucidated in Art 72 of the Indian Constitution. There are five different types of pardoning which are mandated by law. Pardon: means completely absolving the person of the crime and letting him go free. The pardoned criminal will be like a normal citizen. Commutation: means changing the type of punishment given to the guilty into a less harsh one, for example, a death penalty commuted to a life sentence. Reprieve: means a delay allowed in the execution of a sentence, usually a death sentence, for a guilty person to allow him some time to apply for Presidential Pardon or some other legal remedy to prove his innocence or successful rehabilitation. Respite: means reducing the quantum or degree of the punishment to a criminal in view of some special circumstances, like pregnancy, mental condition etc. Remission: means changing the quantum of the punishment without changing its nature, for example reducing twenty year rigorous imprisonment to ten years. Article 72 reads: (1) The President shall have the power to grant pardons, reprieves, respites or remission of punishment or to suspend remit or commute the sentence of any persons convicted of any offence- (a) in all cases where the punishment or sentence is by a court martial; (b) in all cases where the punishment or sentence is for an offence against any law relating to a matter to which the executive power of the Union extends; (c) in all cases where the sentence is a sentence of death. (2) Nothing in sub- clause (a) of clause (1) shall alter the power conferred by law on any officer of the Armed Forces of the Union to suspend, remit or commute a sentence passed by a Court Martial. (3) Nothing in sub-clause (c) of clause (1) shall affect the power to suspend remit or commute a sentence of death exercisable by the Governor of a State under any law for the time being in force. Similarly, as per article 161: Governor of a State has the power to grant pardons, reprieves, respites or remissions of punishment or to suspend, remit or commute the sentence of any person convicted of any offence against any law relating to a matter to which the executive power of the state extends. Please note that President can grant pardon to a person awarded death sentence. But a governor of a state does not enjoy this power. The question is whether this power to grant pardon is absolute or this power of pardon shall be exercised by the President on the advice of Council of Ministers. The pardoning power of the president is not absolute. It is governed by the advice of the Council of Ministers. This has not been discussed by the constitution but is the practical truth. Further, the constitution does not provide for any mechanism to question the legality of decisions of President or governors exercising mercy jurisdiction. But the SC in Epuru Sudhakar case has given a small window for judicial review of the pardon powers of President and governors for the purpose of ruling out any arbitrariness. The court has earlier held that court has retained the power of judicial review even on a matter which has been vested by the Constitution solely in the Executive. However, it is important to note that India has a unitary legal system and there is no separate body of state law. All crimes are crimes against the Union of India. Therefore, a convention has developed that the governor's powers are exercised for only minor offenses, while requests for pardons and reprieves for major offenses and offenses committed in the Union Territories are deferred to the President. Both the President and Governor are bound by the advice of their respective Councils of Ministers and hence the exercise of this power is of an executive character. It is therefore subject to Judicial Review as held by the Supreme Court of India in the case of Maru Ram v. Union of India [1980] INSC 213, 1981 (1) SCC 107, Supreme Court. It was subsequently confirmed by Kehar Singh v. Union of India [1988] INSC 370, 1989(1) SCC 204, Supreme Court. In the case of Epuru Sudhakar & Anr vs Govt. Of A. P. & Ors [2006] INSC 638, Supreme Court, it was held that "clemency is subject to judicial review and that it cannot be dispensed as a privilege or act of grace". The court made these observation while quashing the decision of then Governor of Andhra Pradesh Sushil Kumar Shinde in commuting the sentence of a convicted Congress activist. [23] Iran [ edit] In the Islamic Republic of Iran, the Supreme Leader has the power to pardon and offer clemency under Article 110, § 1, §§ 11. Ireland [ edit] Constitutional basis [ edit] The Irish constitution states (in Article 13. 6) that "The right of pardon and the power to commute or remit punishment imposed by any court exercising criminal jurisdiction are hereby vested in the President, but such power of commutation or remission may also be conferred by law on other authorities. " The power of clemency is nominally exercised by the president. However, the President of Ireland must act "on the advice" of the Government (cabinet), so in practice the clemency decisions are made by the government of the day and the president has no discretion in the matter. The responsibility can also be delegated to people or bodies other than the president. Amnesty and immunity, on the other hand, are usually dealt with by an Act of the Oireachtas rather than by a general form of pardon or a slate of individual pardons. There are two methods by which a pardon may proceed: Method I [ edit] In the first procedure, aimed at miscarriages of justice, the Minister for Justice may recommend to the Government that they formally advise the President to grant a pardon, and any conditions along with it. 1993 Criminal Procedure Act provides the method by which a person convicted of an offense may apply for a pardon. Under this procedure, the person must: Have already been convicted. Have used up their appeals. Allege a new fact (previously known and believed to be significant, but which he has a reasonable excuse for not having mentioned) or newly discovered fact (including a fact previously known which was not believed to be significant) showing a miscarriage of justice has taken place. Then they can apply in writing to the Minister for Justice for a pardon. The minister may then "make or cause to be made such inquiries as they consider necessary" and may refuse to grant the pardon on his/her own initiative, or if they think the person should be pardoned, bring such argument to cabinet. Method II [ edit] Section six of the act allows a Minister for Justice to seek or receive a pardon request from someone whose case is not a 'miscarriage of justice', but has some other fault, such as an archaic law, a law being misapplied by a rogue judge, a reduction in the harshness of a sentence or a substitution of a sentence, without having to go through the procedure above, gone through appeals, or presented new facts. It also allows the minister to waive the procedure in a case of miscarriage of justice if the specific case warrants it. It may also allow prospective pardons as it allows the minister to pardon someone who has not been convicted yet, which the other procedure requires. Committee of Inquiry [ edit] The government itself may assemble a committee to study the case in more detail on their behalf. This may consist of anyone, and any number, but the chair must be: A judge or former judge or A barrister of at least 10 years standing or A solicitor of at least 10 years standing. This special committee may look to any material it sees fit to make its decision, even if it was not, or would not be, available to a jury or trial judge in a normal court. The government do not have to be bound by the committee recommendations. Pardons under Military Law [ edit] Under Section 7(5) of the act, the same powers of the Minister for Justice apply to the Minister for Defence in the case of military officers and enlisted convicted by courts martial. Compensation [ edit] The Minister for Justice or Defence may also, in their absolute discretion, pay compensation, determined by them alone, to any person given a pardon, if this compensation is applied for. If they think the compensation is too low they may challenge for a higher figure in the High Court. List of people who have received a presidential pardon since 1938 [ edit] The power is used very infrequently compared to, for example, pardons in the United States. [24] 1940 – Thomas Quinn, granted by Douglas Hyde 1943 – Walter Brady, granted by Douglas Hyde 1992 – Nicky Kelly, granted by Mary Robinson 1999 – William Geary, granted by Mary McAleese Israel [ edit] In Israel the President has the power to pardon criminals or give them clemency. The pardon is given following a recommendation by the Minister of Justice. After the Kav 300 affair, President Chaim Herzog issued a pardon to four members of the Shin Bet prior to them being indicted. This unusual act was the first of its kind in Israel. Italy [ edit] In Italy, the President of the Republic may "grant pardons, or commute punishments" according to article 87 of the Italian Constitution. Like other acts of the president, the pardon requires the countersignature of the competent government minister. The Constitutional Court of Italy has ruled that the Minister of Justice is obliged to sign acts of pardon. [25] The pardon may remove the punishment altogether or change its form. Unless the decree of pardon states otherwise, the pardon does not remove any incidental effects of a criminal conviction, such as a mention in a certificate of conduct (174 c. p. ) or the loss of civil rights. According to article 79 of the Italian Constitution the Parliament may grant amnesty (article 151 c. ) and pardon (article 174 c. ) by law deliberated a majority of two-thirds of the components. The last general pardon, discounting 3 years from sentences, was approved in 2006. Poland [ edit] In Poland, the President is granted the right of pardon by Article 139 of the Constitution of the Republic of Poland. As of October 2008, 7, 819 people were pardoned, while 3, 046 people's appeals were declined. Lech Wałęsa Approved – 3, 454 Declined – 384 Aleksander Kwaśniewski Approved – 3, 295 (the first term); 795 (the second term); total – 4, 090 Declined – 993 (the first term); 1, 317 (the second term); total – 2, 310 Lech Kaczyński (until October 2007) Approved – 77 Declined – 550 Bronisław Komorowski Approved – 219 Declined – 189 Portugal [ edit] In Portugal, the Heads of State, Kings or Presidents, have always enjoyed the prerogative of grace, being able to grant pardons, commuting or extinguishing sentences in the context of requests for clemency. According to the Portuguese Constitution [26], the President of the Portuguese Republic has the power to pardon and commute sentences, on the proposal of the Government of the Portuguese Republic. This is the exclusive and discretionary competence of the President and is not subject to any conditions beyond the prior hearing of the Government, generally represented by the Minister of Justice. Requests or proposals for pardons are instructed by the Criminal Execution Court by referral from the Ministry of Justice and subsequently submitted to the President for consideration. The pardon is granted by Presidential Decree; if the pardon is denied, the President decides by order. Traditionally pardons are granted during the Christmas period. The pardon can be revoked by the President of the Republic. In 2019 the President granted two pardons. [27] The pardon, as an individual, shall not be confused with amnesty or generic forgiveness, both of a general and abstract nature. Amnesty has retroactive effects, affecting not only the penalty applied but the past criminal act itself, which is forgotten, considered as not practiced (retroactive abolition of crime). Generic forgiveness focuses only on the penalties determined by the sentencing decision and for the future. It is the reserved competence of the Portuguese Parliamnent to approve generic amnesties and pardons. [28] Russia [ edit] The President of the Russian Federation is granted the right of pardon by Article 89 of the Constitution of the Russian Federation. The chain of pardon committees manage lists of people eligible for pardon and directs them to the President for signing. While President Boris Yeltsin frequently used his power of pardon (1998 – 7, 000 to 8, 000 cases), his successor Vladimir Putin is much more hesitant; he granted five pardons in 2014 and two in 2015. [29] Pardon can be requested in any time. The next request can be submitted one year after the previous one. [30] Rwanda [ edit] The prerogative of mercy is a form of pardon that can be exercised by the President of Rwanda. The prerogative is one of the powers of the president defined by the Constitution of Rwanda, which came into effect in 2003 following a national referendum. [31] According to the Constitution of Rwanda, "The President of the Republic has authority to exercise the prerogative of mercy in accordance with the procedure determined by law and after consulting the Supreme Court on the matter. " [32] Republic of South Africa [ edit] Under section 84(2)(j) of the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa, 1996 (Act 108 of 1996), the President of the Republic of South Africa is responsible for pardoning or reprieving offenders. This power of the President is only exercised in highly exceptional cases. To pardon a person is to forgive a person for his/her deeds. The pardon process is therefore not available to persons who maintain their innocence and is not an advanced form of appeal procedure. Pardon is only granted for minor offences after a period of ten years has elapsed since the relevant conviction. For many serious offences (for example if the relevant court viewed the offence in such a serious light that direct imprisonment was imposed) pardon will not be granted even if more than ten years have elapsed since the conviction. Spain [ edit] The derecho de gracia ("right of grace") or indulto ("pardon") is acknowledged by the Spanish Constitution of 1978 as a privilege of the King of Spain (article 62. i: "Functions of the King"). The Spanish Constitution defines it as a renounce on the State's part of its own punitive power on behalf of an individual, founded on reasons of equity or public interest. The Constitution subjects royal pardons to the Law and forbids general pardons, so they have to be granted individually. Theoretically, a royal pardon can be granted for a general offense or accessory offenses alone; if it is granted for a general offense, the accessory ones it implies are also pardoned, with the exception of punishments involving political rights (i. e., removal of the right to run for a public office as a result of a sentence), which have to be explicitly mentioned in the pardon decree if they are going to be pardoned. The procedure and requirements for the grant of the pardon are given by the Law of 18 June 1870, modified by the Law 1/1988 of 14 January. The application for royal pardon has to be carried out by the convicted person himself, his relatives or any other person in his name. The convicting court will then issue a report of the case, which shall be considered along with the public comments of the Prosecutor and the victims of the crime if there were any. All of this is gathered by the Minister of Justice, who will present the pardon issue to the Cabinet of Ministers. If the Cabinet decides a pardon should be granted, then the Minister of Justice will recommend as such to the King. Pardons are issued by Royal Decree and have to be published in the Boletín Oficial del Estado ("Public Journal"). Pardons are not commonly conceded in Spain but for offenders convicted for minor crimes who are about to complete their sentence and have shown good behaviour and repentance. Dating back to medieval times, several organisations and religious brotherhoods still hold the right of granting pardons as part of some privilege or other granted to them by the King of Spain. The scope of this privilege depends on the royal charter received by the organisation when their right to concede pardons was granted, though it usually holds only for minor offenses in very especial conditions; this right is implicitly acknowledged by the public offices nowadays, though it is not exercised but following the usual procedure for royal pardons. Traditionally, they will propose some petty criminal about to end his sentence for pardon being granted to him, and he/she will be released following the tradition to which the pardon holds, usually during the Holy Week. This type of pardons are distinguished from the usual ones in that they only release the prisoner from jail, halting the sentence, but do not pardon the offense itself. Sri Lanka [ edit] In Sri Lanka, under the Sri Lankan Constitution the President can grant a pardon, respite or substitute a less severe form of punishment for any punishment imposed to any offender convicted of any offence in any court within the Republic of Sri Lanka. It is generally referred to as a Presidential pardon. Switzerland [ edit] In Switzerland, pardons may be granted by the Swiss Federal Assembly for crimes prosecuted by the federal authorities. For crimes under cantonal jurisdiction, cantonal law designates the authority competent to grant pardons (if any). In most cantons, the cantonal parliament may pardon felonies, and the cantonal government may pardon misdemeanors and minor infractions. Turkey [ edit] The president of Turkey is granted the right of pardon under certain circumstances defined in the constitution, article 104. According to the article, the president can "remit, on grounds of chronic illness, disability, or old age, all or part of the sentences imposed on certain individuals". After the convict's or his or her proxy's application, if the Council of Forensic Medicine determines that the convict suffers from chronic illness, disability, or old age, the Ministry of Justice presents the situation to the president, and the president can choose to grant a pardon. Additionally, the parliament of Turkey has the power to announce general amnesty. United Kingdom [ edit] The power to grant pardons and reprieves in the United Kingdom is known as the royal prerogative of mercy. It was traditionally in the absolute power of the monarch to pardon an individual for a crime, whether or not he or she had been convicted, and thereby commute any penalty; the power was then delegated both to the judiciary and the sovereign's ministers. Since the creation of legal rights of appeal, the royal prerogative of mercy is no longer exercised by the person of the sovereign, or by the judiciary, but only by the government. In constitutional terms, under the doctrine of the rule of law, the power of ministers to overrule the judiciary by commuting criminal sanctions imposed resolves different and sometimes conflicting public interests. In civil matters, only the legislative branch, and not ministers, have the power to override the judiciary. Until the nineteenth century, for many crimes the sentence was mandatory and was formally pronounced in court immediately upon conviction, but judges and ministers were given powers to exercise the royal prerogative of mercy out of court, in order to mitigate the rigour of the law. Before there was any general form of criminal appeal, a judge might grant a pardon either by way of clemency, because he felt in his opinion that the law was unduly harsh (for example, in the case of convictions of minors), that the verdict was dubious, to seek public approval, or it was otherwise in the public interest. Capital sentences imposed by the assizes were generally executed when the assize was concluded and as the circuit judge left the town, so there was a limited window of time to apply to a judge or directly to the Crown for a pardon. Especially for assizes that were far away from the then capital and major cities of London, York, Durham, Edinburgh, or Dublin, a pardon might well arrive too late. Perhaps as a form of temporary punishment, to give solace, to avoid public disorder, to consult or obtain further evidence, or to maximise the public approval of the King's mercy, judges often did not grant their pardons until their departures; the convict often hoped until his last moments that the sentence of death would not actually be executed, and it was generally popular for a reprieve to arrive at the scaffold at the very moment of the execution. [33] Conditional pardons were granted to many in the 18th century, in return for transportation to British colonies overseas for life in lieu, especially to the Australian colonies. The first known general pardon in post- Conquest England was issued during the celebrations at the coronation of King Edward III in 1327. In 2006, all soldiers from England, Wales, Scotland, and Ireland who were executed for cowardice during the First World War were given a statutory pardon by an Act of Parliament (the Armed Forces Act 2006), resolving a long-running controversy about the justice of their executions. [34] Today the sovereign only grants pardons upon the advice of her ministers: currently they are the Lord Chancellor, for England and Wales; [ citation needed] the First Minister of Scotland; [ citation needed] or the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland. [ citation needed] The Secretary of State for Defence is responsible for military cases. [ citation needed] It is the standard policy of the government to only grant pardons to those who are considered "morally" innocent of the offence, as opposed to those who may have been wrongly convicted by a misapplication of the law. [ citation needed] Pardons are generally no longer issued prior to a conviction, but only after the conviction. The use of the royal prerogative of mercy is now a rare occurrence, given that the Criminal Cases Review Commission and the Scottish Criminal Cases Review Commission are now avenues to statutory remedies against miscarriages of justice. Therefore, the grant of pardons is now very rare occurrence indeed, and the vast majority of acknowledged miscarriages of justice were decided upon by the courts. During the Birmingham Six case, Home Secretary Douglas Hurd stressed that he could only make the decision for a pardon if he was "convinced of [their] innocence", which at the time he was not. [35] One recent case was that of two drug smugglers, John Haase and Paul Bennett. They were pardoned in July 1996 from their sentences of imprisonment both of 18 years, having served some ten months, on the advice of Home Secretary Michael Howard. [36] This was intended as a reward for their information given to the authorities, but there were speculations as to the motives of the Home Secretary. [37] In 2008 they were sentenced to imprisonment for 20 and 22 years, respectively, after subsequent discovery that the information they gave was unreliable. In 1980, after the courts had dismissed their appeals, the Home Secretary, William Whitelaw, used the royal prerogative of mercy to free David Cooper and Michael McMahon from their imprisonment, both having been convicted of murder on poor evidence. [38] [39] Under the Act of Settlement 1701, a pardon cannot prevent a person from being impeached by Parliament, but a pardon may commute any penalties imposed for the conviction. In England and Wales no person may be pardoned for an offence under Section 11 of the Habeas Corpus Act 1679 (unlawfully transporting prisoners out of England and Wales). [40] United States [ edit] U. S. Constitution [ edit] In the United States, the pardon power for offenses against the United States is granted to the President of the United States under Article II, Section 2 of the United States Constitution which states that the President "shall have power to grant reprieves and pardons for offenses against the United States, except in cases of impeachment ". The U. Supreme Court has interpreted this language to include the power to grant pardons, conditional pardons, commutations of sentence, conditional commutations of sentence, remissions of fines and forfeitures, respites, and amnesties. [41] The pardon power of the President applies only to convictions under federal law. [42] Additionally, the power extends to military court-martial cases, as well as convictions in the Superior Court of the District of Columbia. [42] Almost all pardon petitions are addressed to the President, who grants or denies the request. In some cases, the President will, of his own accord, issue a pardon. [43] Typically, applications for pardons are referred for review and non-binding recommendation by the Office of the Pardon Attorney, an official of the United States Department of Justice. [44] State law [ edit] The governors of most U. states have the power to grant pardons or reprieves for offenses under state criminal law. In other states, that power is committed to an appointed agency or board, or to a board and the governor in some hybrid arrangement (in some states the agency is merged with that of the parole board, as in the Oklahoma Pardon and Parole Board). [45] Nine states in the United States have boards of pardons and paroles that exclusively grant all state pardons. These states are: Alabama (Board of Pardons and Paroles), Connecticut (Board of Pardons and Paroles), Georgia ( Board of Pardons and Paroles), Idaho (Commission of Pardons and Paroles), Minnesota ( Board of Pardons), Nebraska (Board of Pardons), Nevada (Board of Pardon Commissioners), South Carolina ( Board of Probation, Parole and Pardon), and Utah (Board of Pardons and Parole). On at least three occasions, state governors— Toney Anaya of New Mexico in 1986, [46] George Ryan of Illinois in 2003, [47] and Martin O'Malley of Maryland in 2014 [48] —have commuted all death sentences in their respective states prior to leaving office. [ edit] These terms differ subtly from country to country, but generally: [49] [50] [51] Clemency is a general concept of amelioration of penalties, especially by action of executive officials; the forms it may take include the following: Amnesty: A pardon applied to a group of people rather than an individual. President Jimmy Carter offered amnesty to anyone who had evaded the draft. Weapon amnesties are often granted so that people can hand in weapons to the police without any legal questions being asked as to where they obtained them, why they had them, etc. After a civil war a mass amnesty may be granted to absolve all participants of guilt and "move on". Amnesties are typically applied in advance of any prosecution for the crime. Commutation: Substituting the imposed penalty for a crime with a lesser penalty, whilst still remaining guilty of the original crime (e. g., someone who is guilty of murder may have their sentence commuted to life imprisonment rather than death, or the term of imprisonment may be reduced). Remission: Complete or partial cancellation of the penalty, whilst still being considered guilty of said crime (i. e., reduced penalty). Also known as remand, the proceedings by which a case is sent back to a lower court from which it was appealed, with instructions as to what further proceedings should be had. Reprieve: Temporary postponement of a punishment, usually so that the accused can mount an appeal (especially if he or she has been sentenced to death). [52] Respite: The delay of an ordered sentence, or the act of temporarily imposing a lesser sentence upon the convicted, whilst further investigation, action, or appeals can be conducted. Expungement: The process by which the record of a criminal conviction is destroyed or sealed from the official repository, thus removing any traces of guilt or conviction. Immunity from prosecution: A prosecutor may grant immunity, usually to a witness, in exchange for testimony or production of other evidence. The prosecutor (conditionally) agrees not to prosecute a crime that the witness might have committed in exchange for said evidence. For example, a car thief who witnesses a murder might be granted immunity for his crime as an inducement to identify, and perhaps to truthfully testify against the murderer. Other immunity: Several other types of immunity are available, depending on the status of a person as a member of the government. [ vague] Some criminals who testify for the prosecution put their life in jeopardy by doing so. To encourage witnesses to testify, the government may offer witness protection. In the United States Federal Witness Protection Program, about "95% of [witnesses in the program] are... criminals. " [53] Those who testify for the prosecution may be offered immunity from prosecution for their own crimes. Ordinary love cinema. Ordinary lover. Ordinary love ben rector lyrics. She have a gift from God with her voice love her. Ordinary love u2 instrumental. Ordinary love sade remix. Ordinary love instrumental. Ordinary love story.

Ordinary love like. 'Ordinary Love (2019) is exactly what it says on the tin: a portrait of mundane, turbulent, beautiful love. It charts the journey of a couple moving through tough times and is as thoughtful and nuanced as you'd hope. Its story is rather straightforward (it's pretty much exactly what you'd expect) but it delivers what it needs to and feels all the more 'real' because of it. The focus of the film is something that isn't actually explored all that often and it's great to see it portrayed so sensitively here. The picture's grounded, non- romanticised' romance is brilliant, too. It feels as close to 'real' as possible, an honest and moving exploration of love that never seems heightened or false. The two stars deliver the goods in their subtle, harder-than-you-may-expect roles, coming together as a compelling pair of, essentially, real people. They have flaws and they argue but they also have an undeniable connection. When this is exploited, it's really heart-warming. When it comes down to it, though, the flick just isn't all that exciting or, perhaps, impactful. It's engaging enough and never even close to boring, but it doesn't quite hit home as hard as it ought to. It's good, don't get me wrong. I can't quite put into words what it is that it is, for me, missing. I guess I'll say it like this: it's good, but it's not great. 6/10.

Ordinary love preview. Ordinary love tonight show. Ordinary love live. Ordinary love video. Like the movie on Friday evening at cinema, after hard working week, nice to escape with something simple and touching. Liam Nesson is best in any role he plays. Ordinary love park kyung. Now with proper text capitalization. First up was The Jesus Rolls This should be a good idea. Jesus Quintana, you may recall, first appeared on screen in "The Big Lebowski, " one of the great Coen Brothers comedies. Now, John Turturro has created his own spin-off, "The Jesus Rolls, " with the permission of the Coens, and returned to his role of the Latino bowler who has converted himself into an artwork in his own honor. But there's something off here. The movie is based off of the 1974 French comedy "Going Places, " and as a result, it has the exact same flaws. It wants to be a kinky sex comedy, but keeps getting distracted by boring detours. It's a muddle in search of a rationale. The film is about two men on the road, going no place though they never stop moving. Jesus, who has just been released from prison, is the more aggressive of the two. Petey (Bobby Cannavale) seems the more resourceful, though he apparently enjoys being told what to do by his buddy. They share everything: stolen loot, hypochondria, boredom, women and, when there are no women, each other. They drift about endlessly in a series of stolen cars, the most expensive of which belongs to a hotshot hairdresser (John Hamm), who in a fit of rage shoots Petey in the one area where no man should ever be shot. The movie gets a kick out of his misery, but later retcons the event by way of intercourse. One would imagine the pain being unbearable, but who knows, maybe I just didn’t pay enough attention in health class. There is a lot of eroticism in the movie, and excessive attention to gynecological detail. Early on, Jesus and Petey are joined by a prostitute, Marie (Audrey Tautou), who comes along as a sort of sexual punching bag. Tautou projects a certain vulnerability that makes only some of the scenes work. But she also seems so impervious to ordinary mortal failings, so blasé in the face of the most outrageous sexual invention, that finally she just becomes a cartoon character. She later gives the pair her overwhelming gratitude when, by chance, they set up the circumstances that result in her achieving her first orgasm. Such is the nature of the film's sense of humor. Jesus for the most part floats benevolently above these small misunderstandings. When it comes to himself, he's a very understanding man. You'd think that John Turturro would know the character well enough to write a full feature around him, but there's no indication of what made Jesus funny in the first place. Yes, it is acknowledged that he's a great bowler, and he does indeed knock down some pins in one scene, but none of it concludes in any payoff, comedic or otherwise. The rest of the scenes don’t seem to, either. If he writes himself into a corner, then the scene will most likely end with a car being stolen or the characters performing an act of violence, not so much out of viciousness as out of impatience. And then, almost inexplicably, Susan Sarandon comes on screen in the middle of the movie as a woman who's just completed a 10-year stretch behind bars. They pick her up, determine to be kind to her, spend time with her, have lunch with her, make love with her, and she informs these scenes with a grace and dignity of her own. She gives it, briefly, the weight and direction the film otherwise lacks. But that doesn't last long, and it's immediately botched by her character's exit, which makes no sense on any level I can think of. Things don’t get much better once her son Jack (Pete Davidson) is taken into the trio. He enters and exits the movie just as aimlessly, and just as quickly, as Sarandon does. By the end, nothing much has happened, and we wonder what the point of it all is. Maybe the point is that the movie has no point. After some horrendous adventures that take them aimlessly from one end of town to the other, Jesus and Petey have clearly become the victims. They are the pursued, doomed like that mythical bird Tennessee Williams sometimes writes about, the one that must spend its entire life flying, since evolution has denied it landing gear. Regardless of how hazily written these guys are, Turturro and Cannavale are clearly having fun; they have a high old time in characterizations that seem composed less of attitudes taken from life than from old movies. Still, they aren't enough to save "The Jesus Rolls. " The movie's good performances and technical expertise can never disguise the vacuity of its empty plot. It's not very invigorating to see so much talent squandered on such foolish mixed-up romanticism. For me to have fun, to be entertained by a movie, I also have to be engaged, interested, provoked, maybe even challenged. If there's nothing to think about, nothing that even holds still long enough for me to get a good look at it, it's not much fun for me. I'd rather focus my attention on something else. Like something I can focus my attention on. next up was Sorry We Missed You Members of the working class are not blind to the world's darkness and pain. That is the major lesson to be taken away from "Sorry We Missed You, " Ken Loach's newest film which unfolds with the fascination of eavesdropping. We are waiting to see what these people will do next, caught up in the fear and the hope that they will bring the whole fragile network of their lives crashing down into ruins. When they prevail, when common sense and good hearts win over, we feel as if it had happened to ourselves. They peel off layers of self-protection, confess their problems, and after much shedding of tears, are stripped down to their true identities. The movie is about Ricky (Kris Hitchen), who has no education or professional training to speak of. Despite this, he is given an opportunity when he is hired to run a franchise as a self-employed delivery driver under the supervision of the tough Maloney (Ross Brewster). At the household, his wife Abbie (Debbie Honeywood) is a home care nurse who goes about life in her own very austere, quiet way. Both are working endless hours for unworthy positions because they've been in an upward struggle against debt. The stress of the new job proves to be great for Ricky. He is always under pressure to make his deliveries in time, and is fined if he is late or makes mistakes. Abbie also finds her work much more demanding without a car, and frequently feels upset by the lack of time she is allowed to spend with her patients due to her demanding schedule. The stress of both Ricky and Abbie is greatly increased by their son Seb (Rhys Stone) who both skips school and often gets into trouble with graffiti. Their daughter, Liza Jane (Katie Proctor) is a wistfully lost soul that worriedly watches over the family's discontent as it grows bigger day after day. Trying to vent about it is no help at all. If either of them get into a crummy situation while on the job, their bosses see it as a waste of company time, and just another fine to pinch away at their assets. The film's net is tightened at this point. "Sorry We Missed You" is one of those movies that sneaks up on the audience. For the first half hour or so, it kind of meandered, and I wondered what it was up to, but then I got hooked. It's not driven by a formula plot out of a textbook. It has the casual drift of real life, and you eventually begin to feel the same rage that the characters do. We all have those moments that make us want to talk back to our superiors, and give them a piece of our mind, yet there's always a resistance that prevents it. Indeed, this particular story has been told in such a way as to appeal to everybody. The movie is another one of Ken Loach's tales of working-class life. It is told in a regional British accent that's so thick it should be subtitled. (I understood most of it when I saw it without subtitles, but I have to say they would help). It is about depressing events, but its spirit is lively, and there's a decent amount of humor wedged here and there, like a spited argument between Ricky and a customer about his preference of sports teams. But everything else about this story unfolds beautifully, with a rueful, knowing intelligence that rises above easy assumptions. The audience is invited to watch the revealing ways in which these characters collide, which is mostly through feelings of chilling abandonment. It also happens to be an actor's field day. Ross Brewster, Debbie Honeywood, and the others are a joy to watch, both for the vigor of their performances and for the immense satisfaction they seem to have had in getting spontaneous freshness. The movie's ending also has a kind of nobility to it. Loach is too honest to believe in easy solutions, and knows better than to present their story as a mere case of bureaucratic injustice, even though it escalates into exactly that before it is over. His interest goes beyond the black-and-white outline of such a horrific situation, and into the harrowing gray reality. Though virtually nothing is said about politics, "Sorry We Missed You, " whether consciously or not, evokes a period of life when times are neither good or bad, and everything is shaped by routine. The family is sweet, means well, does the best they can given the values they have been raised with. They never quite understand how completely they are captives of a system that has no role for them. Abbie has an especially important line when she yells at Ricky's boss over the phone: "How do you get away with this? How does your company get away with treating people like this? " Wouldn’t we all like to know. the last one was Guns Akimbo I shouldn't like this movie. I have spent a long time, starting at birth and continuing until this very moment, evolving into the kind of person who could not possibly enjoy a movie like "Guns Akimbo, " and I like to think the effort was not in vain. It's smarmy, self aware, knows how ridiculous it is, and how much more ridiculous it can get. It doesn't try to waste any time with moments centered in reality, and instead uses its concept as a reason to fill the entire runtime with relentless action. But at the same time, in the midst of every single issue that can be raised about the film, it has a certain disarming charm. The movie's purpose and achievement would be hard to figure out on the basis of its own frontal assault. There exists a plot, hanging on for dear life while everything else is thrown directly at you. In an alternate near future, an underground fight club and a criminal organization known as Skizm has achieved massive popularity by live-streaming real death matches between criminals and psychos. Why? I dunno. Maybe for the same reason that people live-stream themselves going to the supermarket. They think that it somehow raises their cojones and gives them a reason in this world. Ordinary computer programmer Miles (Daniel Radcliffe), who gets his kicks by evoking online trolls, logs into Skizm's forum to insult viewers who turn murder into entertainment. Riktor (Ned Dennehy), the tattoo-faced criminal kingpin and psychopath who runs Skizm, breaks into Miles' apartment with his henchmen. After being beaten and drugged, Miles wakes up to find guns bloodily bolted into both of his hands. He learns via text that he has been forced to participate in Skizm by being pitted against Nix (Samara Weaving), the game’s ultimate champion. She has decided that she wants out, but not after defeating her last opponent. Nix tracks down Miles, who tries to explain his unwanted predicament, but she merely shoots up his apartment. It's not exactly the right day for these events to happen. Miles had planned a rendezvous with his artist ex-girlfriend Nova (Natasha Liu Bordizzo), a vixen of the type that in most movies is infinitely unattainable for nice guys like Miles. In the course of a day, he does his share of running, and there are various scenarios involving car crashes, face-offs with deadly thugs, and gunshots. Lots of gunshots. Floods of gunshots. "Guns Akimbo" is actually a fairly accurate title considering how frequently the trajectories of gunshots are created. There are certain aspects and loopholes to the storyline that deserve to be questioned. In logic so impenetrable that I would love to have somebody run it past me again, some officers on the police force are moles working for Riktor, and the regulars provide service by being completely absent whenever a disastrous motorcycle or car chase is paving its way across the streets. They obviously aren't too fond of a citizen who can't seem to put down his guns, but pay no attention to the countless other candidates of these death matches, who almost always decide to perform the brawls publicly. I suppose it's alright just as long as they have a license. Sometimes, you just can't bring yourself to care. I was really caught up in the movie's frenetic energy and the joyfully absurd way that it carried itself. It is violent, unrelenting, and fiendishly clever in certain areas. Daniel Radcliffe is the key. The movie wouldn't work with an actor who was heavy on his feet, or was too sincere about the material. Radcliffe is essentially an action comedian, who enters into violence with a bemused detachment. Here he has fun as the movie goes over the top. The film's director, Jason Lei Howden, has created a whole fictional universe that's as consistent and fascinating as Alice's Wonderland. Each action sequence is tightly packed while playing by and taking advantage of its own rules. The climax is set in a stock movie location I thought had been retired: A Steam and Flame Factory, where the combatants stalk each other on catwalks and from behind steel pillars, while the otherwise deserted factory supplies vast quantities of flame and steam. I am awarding "Guns Akimbo" for general goofiness and a certain level of insane genius, but I cannot in good conscience rate it higher than that. The movie is thoroughly constructed and paced, and it certainly sticks with its eccentric style, which emphasizes visceral thrills and hits the ground running. While the results are often messy and a little bit too selfish for their own good, there is no inherent inferiority here. To write it off at this point is to not give it a chance. While most filmmakers are content to plod their dreary way from one foregone conclusion to another, Howden is out there on the edge, joyously pulling off cockamamie stunts like this one.

Liam Neeson and Lesley Manville star in Ordinary Love, which is anything but ordinary. While it’s out in theaters now, you may be waiting for the movie to head to a streaming service. Is Amazon Prime Video that streaming service? While it’s not possible to say for definite, it’s not likely that Ordinary Love will head to Amazon Prime Video. As a Bleeker Street movie, it’s more than likely to head to Hulu instead. This is where the likes of Brian Banks and other Bleeker Street movies have headed in the past. It’s going to take some time to head to streaming. You’ll get it on DVD and Blu-ray first, where you’ll also be able to buy or rent on Digital through Amazon Video. Ordinary Love is worth the wait. It is currently Certified Fresh with a 93% score from critics on Rotten Tomatoes. These ratings are based on the performance at the Toronto International Film Festival for the most part. It's by no means a perfect film but it is a really enjoyable film with emotion done well without feeling too over the top especially for a cancer film.
Liam Neeson and Lesley Manville are really great here. They really do carry this film. Since it is primarily focused on these two characters and pretty much no one else. Liam Neeson is really great here and it makes me wonder why he hasn't done more action films.
Overall it's a very simple told very effectively. It does have a lot emotion and it really does work especially the ending. But it's definitely worth watching.

Uncut Gems, in just 13 hours, reached over 85k votes in r/showerthoughts, lmao. Anyone who knows reddit, knows that isn't a movie sub at all. The poster was obviously a bought stooge with maybe 1 previous post. The post for the movie is gone now after what I'm sure was plenty of reports to admins over spam. Sadly many mods get bought at reddit. And the ones at showerthoughts must be some of the most shameless ones I have ever seen for the whole bunch to allow this.
Love or hate them, hardly any movies get a bigger buzz than from the Star Wars franchise.

I gave this p.o.s. 2 stars, bc I did actually finish it. I kept waiting for all this scheming that Sandler's character was supposedly capable of. I kept thinking there must be something here to make this time worthwhile. br> There f'ing wasn't. Don't waste your time, unless you have some weird fetish for Sandler doing his old man voice, d'ed near non-stop for over 2hrs. Otherwise, stay far away. Where to Stream: Vudu, Tubi, Crackle Critics Consensus: A case study in less-is-more filmmaking, Coherence serves as a compelling low-budget calling card for debuting writer-director James Ward Byrkit. Where to Stream: Crackle, Vudu Critics Consensus: Veteran character actress Melissa Leo delivers a stunning performance in this powerful — if grim — indie film. Critics Consensus: Smart, twisty, and perfectly cast, the effects-assisted neo-noir F/X reminds viewers that a well-told story is the most special effect of all. Critics Consensus: Utterly predictable and wholly of its time, but warm, sincere, and difficult to resist, due in large part to Pat Morita and Ralph Macchio’s relaxed chemistry. Critics Consensus: A deft hybrid of laughs, espionage, and music, The Mighty Quinn is a smart, pleasant entertainment that offers an early example of Denzel Washington’s onscreen magnetism. Critics Consensus: The movie could have benefited from a more experienced director, but a great cast and script overcome any first time jitters the director may have had. Critics Consensus: Smart, funny, and thoroughly well-cast, To Die For takes a sharp – and sadly prescient – stab at dissecting America’s obsession with celebrity. Critics Consensus: Inscrutably strange, yet undeniably compelling, Arizona Dream is anchored by magnetic performances from Johnny Depp and Faye Dunaway. Critics Consensus: Battle Royale is a controversial and violent parable of adolescence, heightening teenage melodrama with life-or-death stakes. Critics Consensus: With a perfect cast and a sly twist on the usual Hollywood gangster dynamic, Get Shorty delivers a sharp satire that doubles as an entertaining comedy-thriller in its own right. Critics Consensus: Pee-Wee’s Big Adventure brings Paul Reubens’ famous character to the big screen intact, along with enough inspired silliness to dazzle children of all ages. Where to Stream: IMDB Critics Consensus: Quirky humor, plucky characters and solid slapstick make this family comedy a frenetically tasty time at the movies. Critics Consensus: Moving at a contemplative speed unseen in most westerns, Meek’s Cutoff is an effective, intense journey of terror and survival in the untamed frontier. Critics Consensus: Lighthearted to a fault, Much Ado About Nothing ‘s giddy energy and intimate charm make for an entertaining romantic comedy — and a Shakespearean adaptation that’s hard to resist. Critics Consensus: Led by a brilliant performance from star Frank Langella, Robot & Frank works as both a quirky indie drama and as a smart, thoughtful meditation on aging. Critics Consensus: Slacker rests its shiftless thumb on the pulse of a generation with fresh filmmaking that captures the tenor of its time while establishing a benchmark for 1990s indie cinema. Critics Consensus: Dark, violent, and drenched in dread, Goodnight Mommy is perfect for extreme horror enthusiasts — or filmgoers who prefer to watch between splayed fingers Critics Consensus: This underrated gem from director Peter Weir features an outstanding performance from Jeff Bridges as a man dealing with profound grief. Critics Consensus: Rich in atmosphere and anchored by a powerful performance from Nicolas Cage, Joe is a satisfying return to form for its star — as well as director David Gordon Green. Critics Consensus: A moving film with moments of humor, Liberty Heights succeeds in capturing the feel of the ’50s with great performances and sensitive direction. Critics Consensus: Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home is perhaps the lightest and most purely enjoyable entry of the long-running series, emphasizing the eccentricities of the Enterprise’s crew. Critics Consensus: Elevated by a gripping performance from Julianne Moore, Still Alice is a heartfelt drama that honors its delicate themes with bravery and sensitivity. Critics Consensus: Director Richard Attenborough is typically sympathetic and sure-handed, but it’s Ben Kingsley’s magnetic performance that acts as the linchpin for this sprawling, lengthy biopic. Critics Consensus: Hello, My Name Is Doris is immeasurably elevated by Sally Field’s remarkable performance in the title role, which overpowers a surfeit of stereotypical indie quirk. Critics Consensus: Extraordinarily daring for a Hollywood film, Altered States attacks the viewer with its inventive, aggressive mix of muddled sound effects and visual pyrotechnics. Critics Consensus: Uniting a pair of powerhouse talents with a smart, sharply written script, Postcards from the Edge makes compelling drama out of reality-inspired trauma. Like this? Ubisoft: Mario + Rabbids 2 does exist and is progressing very well. It’ll release in 2020. It will also have Rayman as a major part of the game’s story in it. BG&E2 is not progressing well at all. It looks rough and it barely runs at all. Only good things I can say is that the pre rendered cutscenes all look really good and that the story is planned out The delays of R6Q, G&M, and WDL, are all to get them to be ported to next gen as to be cross gen titles Next AC is viking themed and brings back the boat features from Black Flag New 2D Rayman in the works, uses same artstyle and engine as Legends and Origins. Push for more diversity of genre in their exclusives - Halo 1, 2, 3, Reach, and Rare Replay all coming to Switch - Game Pass will be combined with Project XCloud and create a streaming and downloading service called Game Pass X. You can stream and download to play any game in the library of Game Pass X, although downloading only works on consoles -Windows 10 will work on Series X, but only to browse the web Region locking is gone on Series X, and the Series X is backwards compatible with every Xbox disc ever Sony: Spider-Man 2 is a PS5 exclusive and will be announced at E3 2019 Speaking of which Sony has decided to return to E3 but no press conference, just a State of Play and a booth on the showfloor PS5 is $499, no region locking, and is backwards compatible with every PlayStation disc ever PSVR will work with the system but not much is planned for it in terms of new games besides a sequel to Astro Bot Last of Us 2 will get an upgraded port for PS5 on launch -Horizon Zero Dawn 2 is a launch title for PS5 Nintendo: No information on Smash besides the Capcom DLC and that I only know because of a Capcom source. Smash leaks seem to have dried up. Animal Crossing Switch Lite variant is coming Pokémon Diamond and Pearl remakes are next year’s Pokémon games and will have the ability to transfer every Pokémon to that game after the backlash of SwSh, which while it didn’t effect sales, was considered a PR blunder internally Tomodachi Life sequel is coming Was some rumors that they were interested in buying out Level 5 but nothing concrete Bethesda: Fallout 4 port for Switch, uses 64 GB cartridge Fallout 76 is still being worked on and the plan is to try and make a come back somehow Starfield is planned to get a full reveal at E3, and is set to launch in 2022 Fallout 5 has started early planning and prototyping. Don’t expect it for at least 3 years New Vegas will be getting an HD remaster on all platforms, including switch, as a sort of apology to Fallout fans after the 76 disaster. It’ll include all the DLC. Eternal was delayed mainly to fix the multiplayer which has been very buggy and laggy. They do not want a repeat of the 76 launch and are making sure the online features and multiplayer works as best it can. The Switch port is planned for the Fall. SEGA: Sonic Adventure Remake is coming Mania 2 is a 2020 title, and is pretty much almost done Team Sonic Racing major DLC update with new characters and tracks, including an appearance from AiAi from Super Monkey Ball Dreamcast SEGA Ages titles finally happening - Super Monkey Ball 1, 2, and 3 are getting HD remakes, and will be released on Switch first as a timed exclusive in 2021 Chao Garden Mobile is like the chao garden from SA2 but with a more mobile friendly design and a gatcha system for variant chaos Google/Stadia: 3D Platformer staring the Dinosaur from the offline dinosaur game Lots of studios pulling out and ending stadia support and Google is fighting hard to get some to stay The only reason X9 is stadia timed exclusive is because Google payed big time for it Google doesn’t seem to be ending support of the project for at least 2 years but after that the future of stadia is uncertain They have noted the ads are cringe inducing and are bad, and plan to try a new strategy for them New color scheme for the controller is coming: Silver and Gold Netherrealm: -Injustice 3 is going to be the first next gen title from them MK11 Port to PS5 and Series X Marvel Vs DC is being floated around with Marvel but it likely won’t happen Future MK11 DLC includes Goro, Doomslayer, and Ed Boon himself as a free joke character Edit: Updated format because of complaints. To emphasis: I just got this from a pastebin leak, format and all. There is a lot that is questionable but I shared it here because it was an interesting read.

I still eat rappers... mmm scrumptious “ 😂💀. I spent 3 months and 2 weeks traveling through Southeast Asia ( Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, Singapore, Cambodia) and I'm writing this for those who are thinking about visiting. I'll cover as much as possible. AMA if you want more info!!!! Pre-Trip I booked a flight with All Nippon Airways (ANA) for $530 round-trip four months before departing. I flew out of Los Angeles (LAX) to Bangkok (BKK). Trip started September 11th and ended December 23rd. (*note: it was Los Angeles to Tokyo (Haneda) → Tokyo (Haneda) to Bangkok) I did not pre-book anything. I only booked my accommodation before arriving in Bangkok. You can book accommodations as you go. I used hostelworld and. I didn't pre-book activities, flights, bus, and such. This can all be done a couple of days ahead of time or literally the day of. Get a Charles Schwab debit card if possible to avoid foreign transaction fees. I used this throughout my whole trip and I saved a lot on transaction fees. Please use an ATM over the currency exchange booths; they tend to rip you off. I used to buy an insurance plan. Please buy something that has emergency evacuation. You don’t want to get malaria or dengue fever and not have that option. Fortunately, I didn't need to use it. I took 2 photocopies of my passport. I took 3 passport size photos for visas. Please bring exact change when paying for visas to avoid getting ripped off. They all take US dollars. Visa information for US Citizens only: Thailand → free visa on arrival, 30 days. No passport photo required. Laos → $35 visa on arrival, 30 days, 1 passport photo Vietnam → $15 visa approval letter (), $25 visa, 3 months-single entry, 1passport photo Singapore → free visa on arrival Cambodia → $30 visa on arrival, 30 days, 1 passport photo Vaccinations/Medicine Recommend by CDC I got a typhoid, Hepatitis A and B, and influenza shot before leaving. Do this a MONTH BEFORE leaving! The vaccines need time to go into your system. If you don't, it's fine; just get them ASAP. I got my shots at Walgreens. I brought some imodium with me. You can buy medicine for cheap in Asia so I wouldn’t worry about bringing anything. I didn’t bring any anti-malaria pills either. Condoms are cheap and plentiful too. Money Again, I took my Charles Schwab debit card and a backup Chase credit card/Chase debit card. Southeast Asia is cash-heavy (except for Singapore). My budget for the trip was $3500 with flights included. I went over budget by $1000 because I bought a motorcycle in Vietnam and I did other excursions around SE asia. You can easily do Southeast Asia for way less than I did. Hostels were around $2 - $7 USD. Food prices were different everywhere I went. But I never paid more than $2-3 per meal. Beers were cheap; about $1 or a little more. Vietnam has the cheapest food but it’s cheap everywhere in southeast asia. If you really want to save money, don’t buy alcohol. A solid budget would be $25 - $30 per day. It would be enough to do excursions and cover all expenses. Some cities are way cheaper on your budget for example, some cities in Vietnam I only spent like $10-15 per day. But I think you can do it comfortably for $20 a day. Transportation Download Grab app. I mainly used a GrabBike to get around. You can hire a car too, but it's much more expensive than ordering a motorbike to take you around. I avoided using taxis at all costs. They tend to rip you off if you are a tourist. If you must hop on a taxi, agree on a set price before hopping on. Some a-holes would turn on the meter and not say anything until you hop off and charge you more. Public buses are the cheapest option. They cost less than $0. 50 USD per ride. I mainly used GrabBike and walked. From city to city, I used day/night buses. Buses cost around $5 - $15 or more, but it all depends how far you’re traveling. I usually booked through my hostel but sometimes you can get them way cheaper by asking around at travel agencies. Sometimes I booked night buses/trains to save a night on accommodation. Depending how far the distance is, I also did flights. Flights are cheap; $25-$50 thru AirAsia, Nok Air, Vietnam Airlines, Vietjet Air, etc. (I’ll go into more detail in the itinerary section of this report). Some flights I paid a lot more because I booked them last minute. I also used to book trains and buses. Tech/Phone I took my iPhone X (unlocked) and connected a line in Thailand, Vietnam, and Cambodia. I took an old iPhone 6 with me for backup. If you gonna take a laptop or kindle, etc., wi-fi is available in most hostels. I didn't bring that with me cause it weighs me down a lot. It’s safe to take expensive phones with you. But please take care of your stuff. I didn’t really hear about anyone getting their phones stolen. In Thailand, connect with AIS. They have super cheap plans with unlimited data for $5 a month. But please activate your phone at an official AIS store at a shopping center so you can get this deal. Bring your passport or a copy. If they try to sell you a “tourist sim card, ” walk away. They rip you off. In Vietnam, I activated my phone at Hanoi Airport when I arrived. It was like $10 a month for unlimited data. I went with Viettel. Bring a passport or copy to activate it. In Cambodia, I activated my phone at Phnom Penh Airport when I arrived. I paid $10 for 15gb of data with Metfone. Apps that I used: Google Maps: you can download offline maps. WhatsApp Facebook Messenger Instagram Netflix (watch The Vietnam War docu-series by Ken Burns if you’re going to ‘Nam) Hulu Spotify Grab: similar to Uber Currency Converter Google Translate: you can download offline ExpressVPN Hostelworld Pack List I used an old Adidas Aries Backpack I had from my last trip. This is 30 liters, maybe 35 liters at best. I bought it cheap for $40. It got the job done. 2 soccer jerseys 1 long-sleeve soccer jersey 1 Lakers jersey (the best thing to wear) 1 pair of joggers (threw them out after a month) 2 pairs of shorts (basketball and board short) 6 pairs of Nike Dri-Fit boxers (lost 1) 3 pairs of low-cut socks (lost all of them by the last day haha) 1 pair of knee high socks (lost them) 1 micro-fiber towel (forgot it at a hostel haha) 1 waterproof light jacket 1 pair of Nike Free Run Flyknit shoes 1 pair of Nike shower sandals 1 Zomake day pack 1 Hershel toiletries bag 3 Forge cable combination locks and a 1 foot double-looped cable External battery pack (13000 mAh) Bose QC-25 noise-cancelling headphones 1 full-face motorcycle helmet with GoPro attachment Over the course of the trip, I bought more stuff: 1 knockoff Nike shorts (bought in Vietnam) 1 custom-tailored blazer (bought in Vietnam) 2 cotton shirts (bought in Thailand) If you are not sure what to bring, don't worry, they sell cheap clothing for whatever needs. Vietnam has the best quality, knockoff stuff. I seriously regret bringing all my clothes. Next time, I am going to Vietnam with 1 pair of clothes and do some shopping when I arrive. Most of the time in Asia, I wore my basketball jersey, sandals and shorts. My rule is that if it doesn’t smell, I will re-wear it. But I always switched out underwear. So I would suggest bringing like 6-7 pairs of underwear. And 3 shirts and 3 shorts. Please wear deodorant!!!!!! Some fucking people are disgusting, especially those “hippy, dreadlock” types; they don’t use soap and deodorant and it stinks up the room. I understand it is a lifestyle choice but damn, consider the people around you who are on their vacation and have to put up with this stuff. Please keep up some hygiene. Safety I am a 6'1" (1. 85 m for my non-American friends) male with light brown complexion. I felt safe most of my time there. A lot of locals assumed I was Thai, Laotian, Vietnamese, or Cambodian. I think Southeast Asia was the safest part of the world that I ever visited. I never felt like I was in any danger. Just avoid the bad areas and stick to the tourist trail and you’ll be fine. If you are planning to drive a motorbike, please please please wear closed-toed shoes. Don’t be a dumbass and only wear sandals. Those idiots are the ones who usually get in an accident. Just because the locals do it, it doesn’t mean you should do it too. Locals know how to operate a motorbike properly. And please wear a helmet. I brought my own helmet from back home (it’s not necessary). If you going to trek in the jungles or such, wear long-sleeves and long pants. Don't leave any body part exposed. Mosquitos will bite the shit out of you. Worse, you can get Dengue Fever or Malaria. You should probably drench your skin with mosquito repellant too. Don't worry about little treks through forests; mosquito repellant will get the job done by itself. Motorcycles If you're planning to buy a motorcycle stay away from cheap Honda Win copies. I crashed on a Honda Win copy. As much as I hate to part blame, a reason I crashed was because of the bike. It had shitty brakes and suspension. If you are going to buy a bike, get a Honda Wave or Honda Click. You can purchase a bike through Facebook Marketplace. Or you can rent. I heard Tigit Motorbikes in Hanoi or Saigon does good business. Usually a lot of small towns rent out motorbikes to tourists for $5-$8 a day. Like I said above, rent a Honda Wave or Honda Click. They usually rent out Yamahas that are similar to those bikes; those are fine too. Get an automatic scooter if you're not experienced. PLEASE WEAR CLOSED TOE SHOES! Please take pictures of the bike from every angle you can think of before taking off to avoid getting scammed. Also, test the bike too. Make sure the wheel alignment is straight and check if the lights are working. If you're only renting for a day, fill it up with only 2 liters because they'll keep the gas regardless if you paid for it. is an excellent resource if you want to bike in Vietnam. Itinerary/Activities I will put a star (*) next to the city if I really loved it. I will put a star (*) next to the hostel if I really loved it. I will list the accommodation first. If I mention restaurants or food stalls, this is because I HIGHLY recommend it. *Bangkok (4 days): *Jam Hostel, Wat Pho, Wat Saket Ratchawora, Chinatown, Grand China Hotel rooftop bar (free), Khao San Road, Khlom Lat Mayom Floating Market, Muay Thai (free), Jeng Noodle Thai Food (a sweet lady fed me a bunch of times), Jok Pochana (delicious noodle soups and other thai dishes) Took a flight from Bangkok (Don Mueang) to Chiang Mai → Nok Air ($44) Chiang Mai (2 days): The Islander Hostel, Wat Phrathat Doi Suthep, Pha Lat Temple, Monk’s Trail hike, Chiang Mai Elephant Home Took a 2-hour mini-van from Chiang Mai to Pai (booked through hostel) *Pai (3 days): *Nolo Hub Pai Hostel, rented a motorbike, Chedi Phra That Mae Yen (Big White Buddha), Pai Canyon, Pai Land Split, Bamboo Bridge, Pai Historical Bridge Took a 2-hour mini-van back to Chiang Mai Chiang Mai (1 day): Jeune Hostel, Sunday Night Market Took a bus from Chiang Mai to Chiang Rai Chiang Rai (2 days): Bed & Bike Poshtel, White Temple (Wat Rong Khun), Charlermchai Kositpipat Museum, Night Market, Cat ‘n’ A Cup Cafe, Por Jai restaurant (best Khao Soi Chicken soup i’ve ever tried) Took a public bus from Chiang Rai to Chiang Khong Chiang Khong (1 day): Sleeping Well Hostel, Rin Bar (karaoke and bartender hooked me up with free shots) Bought a slow boat package at my hostel. It stops mid-way and docks in a small village called Pak Beng for a night. I stayed at DP Guesthouse but you can find cheaper accommodation when you arrive. Thoughts and opinions: Thailand - it has the most-developed tourist infrastructure in mainland Southeast Asia which makes it easy to travel. If I had to recommend a country to visit for someone leaving on their first solo trip to Asia, it would be Thailand. Thailand has a delicious food cuisine. What I took away from the culture wasn’t much. No offense to any Thai people out there reading this, but I felt Thailand only had Buddha and the King in terms of culture. But don’t get me wrong, I loved the temples in Thailand. The temples were really beautiful and it was very cool to learn about Buddhism. By the way, Thai police are terrible. They constantly harassed the locals and tourists which annoyed me. (I might be biased) I would visit Thailand again. Laos - Laos was the poorest country of the five that I visited. But that didn’t seem to take away from the locals. The locals were friendly. What annoyed me was that there were a lot of drunk tourists in the major cities wreaking havoc. The road infrastructure was probably the worst but it didn’t stop me from getting from city to city. I felt like I missed out on the real Laos because I only stayed in the major cities. It’s really unfortunate that a majority of the country sits on a lot of bombs that were dropped during the Vietnam War. It makes it hard for the locals to farm and expand their territories. Overall, I wasn’t vibing with Laos; it just wasn’t for me. I was really looking forward to visiting Vietnam next so that distracted me as well. A lot of people I met throughout my travels seemed to enjoy Laos. Personally, I wouldn’t visit Laos again. Vietnam - I LOVED VIETNAM! Never have I visited a country where I came in with high expectations and met my expectations. The food was amazing and cheap. The culture was so good and interesting. Vietnam had the best scenery and nature. Doing the Ha Giang Loop on my motorcycle alone was the highlight of the entire trip. I am really into 60s classic rock music, Vietnam War movies (Platoon, Apocalypse Now, Forrest Gump, etc. ) and I watched the Vietnam War documentary by Ken Burns, and this added to my experience. You understand how the music of that time was written and how the war impacted the nation to this day. (MY OPINION: the dynamic of a “communist North” and a “capitalist South” really made for an interesting relationship. Under one rule, they are socialist country and it functions well). It was really interesting to see. If I had to go back to Asia and could only visit one country, I would visit Vietnam. I loved it so much that I am considering living there for a couple of months. I missed out on Cat Ba, Ha Long Bay, Phong Nha, Quy Nhon, and other cities, but it's all the more reason for me to return. I am definitely going back next year or soon. Singapore - Man have you ever seen the movie “Crazy Rich Asians”? lol. I swear like I was an extra on that movie set. I never felt so out of place haha. I was the only one walking around in cheap backpacker clothing haha. But Singapore was really nice. The citizens do a great job keeping the country clean. There were so many shopping malls. I also enjoyed the mix of culture; it is truly a “world city. ” It was quite expensive compared to the other Southeast Asian countries but I expected that. I definitely wouldn’t stay long for that reason. It would be best to visit if you know a local, but it is not a dealbreaker. The airport was outta this world! I would go to Singapore again. Cambodia - Definitely the strangest country I ever visited. There were so many old sexpats, it was quite disgusting. I felt so terrible for the girls who were involved. You can very easily find weed at any of these “happy pizza” restaurants. Cambodia had the best western food in all of the countries I visited. The road infrastructure was very poor, on par with Laos. There was a lot of poverty, and it's tough to see. But the locals were the friendliest, happiest people I met on this trip. They are super proud of their crown jewel, Angkor Wat. Angkor Wat was amazing to visit. It should be listed as one of the wonders of the world in my opinion. I missed out on Battambang and Koh Rong Saleom. I would visit Cambodia again. There you have it. The song also features Rihanna and Kanye West. It was written by the performing trio, with assistance from Ernest Wilson and Jeff Bhasker. Production of the track was made by West and Wilson (also known as "No I. D. "). [1] "Run This Town" was released as the second single from Jay-Z's eleventh studio album The Blueprint 3, and is used as the theme song of Battlefield 4. [2] "Run This Town" received mixed reviews from music critics; some praised what each member of the trio brought to the track, whilst others thought that Rihanna and Kanye West out-performed Jay-Z. The song was a commercial success, reaching number two on the Billboard Hot 100 and topping the charts in the United Kingdom. It additionally made top ten chartings in ten other countries including in Australia, Norway, Sweden, and Switzerland. "Run This Town" won Best Rap Song and Best Rap/Sung Collaboration at the 52nd Annual Grammy Awards. The song's accompanying music video, directed by Anthony Mandler, depicts the trio in a post-apocalyptic environment, featuring scenes involving angry protesters surrounding them. "Run This Town" was performed by Jay-Z, West, and Rihanna on the series premiere of The Jay Leno Show in the United States. [3] [4] Background [ edit] "Run This Town" features singer Rihanna ( right) and rapper Kanye West ( left); both also co-wrote the song. "Run This Town" samples 1970s Greek band The 4 Levels of Existence's song "Someday in Athens", appearing at the 1:02 mark, and lasting thereafter. [5] The second official single from the album, The Blueprint 3 was originally planned to be "Off That" featuring Drake but "Run This Town" was decided upon instead. Jay-Z confirmed the release in an interview with Tim Westwood, saying, "We basically run this town. It's myself, Rihanna and Kanye. It's pretty much it. " [6] The song made its radio debut on July 24, 2009 at 9:11 am to coincide with the album's release date, September 11, 2009. [7] "Run This Town" was officially released to urban radios in the United States on August 9, 2009 [8] and was released via iTunes worldwide two days later on August 11. The CD single release followed on August 31, 2009 in the UK. [9] Rihanna's contribution was her first musical appearance following her February 8 altercation with her ex-boyfriend Chris Brown, earlier that year. [10] Reception [ edit] Critical reception [ edit] "Run This Town" received mixed reviews from music critics. Following the leak of the song, Tom Breihan, Pitchfork gave a positive review. "The new Jay-Z/Rihanna/Kanye West track from 'The Blueprint 3', leaked this morning, and it bangs. Jay's ' D. (Death of Auto-Tune) ' left the impression that The Blueprint 3 might be a cantankerous grumpy-old-man rap album, but 'Run This Town' totally obliterates that. Thanks to a molten motivational Rihanna chorus, it's pop-friendly as hell, without compromising Jay's fundamental hardness. And Jay is actually rapping like he cares, something he's only done intermittently over the last few years. Still, Kanye gets the hottest line on the song: 'What you think I rap for, to push a fuckin' RAV 4? '" [11] Following the album's release, Pitchfork made another review of the song, again praising the track. "There's something for everybody: Jay [-Z] sounds engaged in a way he rarely has since unretiring, Rihanna coos those "ay ay"s the radio loves, and Kanye West, as you may have read, once again upstages the guy he's producing. Rihanna's hook may not be Auto-Tune'd, but it's definitely autopilot. " [12] felt that Jay-Z lacked presence, writing, "It looks like someone finally got tired of being bullied by ' Big Brother '. Roc Nation dropped the ball on the song credit though; it was supposed to read 'Kanye West Featuring Rihanna, ' because 'Ye murdered Jay on his own track. But that's not saying much because Jay was running this race on one foot. In other words, Kanye didn't win, Jay lost". [13] Digital Spy gave a mixed review of the song. "Boasting three of the biggest stars from the worlds of hip-hop and R&B, 'Run This Town' was never going to be a flop, but neither is it a roaring success. Kanye's slick rapping ("Reebok baby, you need to try some new things, have you ever had shoes without shoestrings? ") and Rihanna's "hey-hey" chorus hook make Jay-Z seem surplus to requirements, which surely can't have been the aim. The chaotic military march beats are impressive – and hats off to Jigga for snubbing Auto-Tune – but this track still doesn't seem fitting of an artist considered a groundbreaking rap legend. [14] Accolades [ edit] Most notably, "Run This Town" was nominated for Best Rap Song and Best Rap/Sung Collaboration at the 52nd Grammy Awards in 2010. It eventually won both awards, marking Jay-Z's tenth and Rihanna's third and Kanye West's fourteenth win at the ceremony awards in total. The song also managed to win an Emmy Award for 'Outstanding Music Composition/Direction/Lyrics', during Super Bowl XLIV. [15] Year Ceremony Award Result 2010 52nd Grammy Awards [16] Best Rap/Sung Collaboration Won Best Rap Song BET Hip-Hop Awards [17] Best Hip-Hop Video Nominated International Dance Music Awards [18] Best Hip-Hop Dance Track People's Choice Awards [19] Favourite Music Collaboration 2011 Black Reel Awards [20] Best Original or Adapted Song Chart performance [ edit] "Run This Town" entered the Billboard Hot 100 at number 88. Following its digital release and debut at number three on the Digital Songs chart, it soared from number 66 to three in its third week on the Hot 100 for the week ending August 16, 2009. [21] The song eventually peaked at number two behind The Black Eyed Peas I Gotta Feeling, marking Jay-Z's second-highest charting song of his career as a lead artist. "Run This Town" reached number one on the Rap Songs chart on the date issued September 26, 2009, climbing from number four the previous week. [22] It remained atop the chart for seven consecutive weeks. [23] It also made an appearance on the R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart at number three. [23] Despite its genre of hip hop and R&B, the song managed to debut at number 38 on the Pop Songs chart on the issue dated September 12, 2009. [24] It eventually reached the top ten at number eight. [25] "Run This Town" additionally peaked at numbers two and three on the Radio Songs and Digital Songs charts. [25] As of June 2015, the song has sold 3, 490, 000 digital copies in the United States. [26] In Australia, "Run This Town" entered the Australian Singles Chart at number 35 on September 6, 2009. The following week it fell to number 39 but rebounded to a new peak of 25 in its third week. It reached the top ten of the chart on October 11, 2009, and made its peak of number nine in its seventh week. [27] It has been certified Platinum by the Australian Recording Industry Association, denoting sales of 70, 000 copies. [28] In New Zealand, "Run This Town" debuted at number fourteen on the New Zealand Singles Chart on September 14, 2009, climbing to number ten the following week. In its third week, it fell to number thirteen but regained its peak position for the three weeks after. In its seventh total week on the chart, it made a new peak of number nine. [29] It has received a Gold certification from the Recording Industry Association of New Zealand, for sales of 7, 500 copies. [30] In Canada, the song peaked at number six on the Canadian Hot 100. [31] In the United Kingdom, "Run This Town" entered at number one on the UK Singles Chart on September 6, 2009 ― for the week ending date September 12, 2009 ― with sales of 62, 000 copies. [32] The feat gave Jay-Z his first number one single in Britain as a lead artist and fourth overall, following his feature on Rihanna's " Umbrella " (2007) and his wife Beyoncé 's " Déjà Vu " (2006) and " Crazy in Love " (2003). It marked the third number one singles in that country for both Rihanna and Kanye West. For Rihanna, "Run This Town" gave her number ones one the chart in three consecutive years, following " Take a Bow " (2008) and "Umbrella" [33] and followed West's chart leaders " American Boy " featuring Estelle (2008) and " Stronger " (2007). [34] [35] Throughout the rest of Europe, the song also performed well, reaching the top five in Ireland [36] and Norway [37] and the top ten in the Czech Republic, [38] Sweden [39] and Switzerland. [40] It also reached the top twenty in Denmark [41] and Germany. [42] Music video [ edit] The video for "Run This Town" was directed by Anthony Mandler and was filmed on August 6, 2009 at Fort Totten Park in New York City. Mandler explained the production behind the video saying: "There's a tone and feeling to the song, there's a militia, a march and a kind of rambunctious energy to it that, for me, I immediately wanted to tap into. I showed [Jay] some references from the classic rebellious zones of the world. We live in very orderly society in America, but when you get into Brazil, you get into the Middle East, you get into Africa, you get into Eastern Europe, when you get into places like that, there's a different sort of 'we run this town' [going on]. There's less order and more chaos. So we looked at a lot of those references, new photos and historical photos, to capture that kind of falling-apart feeling. " "We wanted you to feel uneasy throughout the piece, " he said. "We wanted there to be a constant layer of tension through the piece. Even in the way I shot — where the camera comes by Jay, it doesn't stop on him, it goes to Rihanna — there's kind of this chaos of revealing and covering and concealing. And things happen offscreen that you don't see. I think people are really gonna flip on this". The video was leaked on August 19, 2009, by MTV Germany. It premiered officially on August 20 on MTV, as well other MTV channels across the world. The video was released to iTunes on August 25, 2009. Synopsis and reception [ edit] The music video involves crowds of protesters in masks, holding torches whilst walking. Rihanna takes a bandanna from covering her mouth and performs the intro of the song in a park area with explosions firing around her. Jay-Z then begins the second verse while in a temple-like area. Kanye West sings his verse in a cave-like area holding a torch and having a bandanna cover his face like Jay-Z and Rihanna. Throughout the video, the trio are on a stage platform with the mob of protesters previously shown surrounding them. Daniel Kreps of Rolling Stone called the video, "a civilization that takes Jigga's lyrical motif of 'all black everything' very seriously. " He further added, "When we first heard 'Run This Town', we pictured Jay-Z and his posse staging a siege on Manhattan, or at least going to all the VIP spots most civilians only dream about like in the " D. (Death of Autotune) " video. Instead, we're introduced to a Mad Max -like landscape full of proto-biker gear, torches, face scarves and bombed-out buildings. Jay-Z and his gang of ruffians actually look like they're on a mission to slay Auto-Tune. Also, according to the video, Rihanna is the only female to survive the apocalypse, and West's verse about Reeboks, Rav4s and girls with two bee stings seem starkly out of place in the dismal future. " [43] It ranked at number eleven on BET 's Notarized: Top 100 Videos of 2009 countdown. Remixes and cover versions [ edit] On July 20, 2010, an orchestrated version of "Run This Town" created by E. S. Posthumus was officially released to US iTunes under the Roc Nation imprint, in its studio format. This was eventually played before Super Bowl XLIV and Nashville Predators playoff games. [44] Metalcore band Miss May I covered this song for the compilation album Punk Goes Pop Volume 03.. [ citation needed] Lil Wayne freestyled "Run This Town" on his highly acclaimed mixtape No Ceilings. Usage in media [ edit] "Run this Town" has been used in the video game NBA 2K13. [45] The song featured in the teaser trailer for 2013 video game Battlefield 4. It was to be included in coverage of Thursday Night Football on CBS and the NFL Network in 2014, however, it was pulled from the opening segment in the first broadcast in the wake of a domestic violence controversy involving NFL player Ray Rice. [46] [47] After Rihanna took to Twitter to complain, the song was removed from further games. [48] The song was performed at the closing ceremony at the 2012 Summer Paralympics in London with British rock band Coldplay and Rihanna Track listing [ edit] Digital download [49] "Run This Town" (featuring Rihanna and Kanye West) – 4:34 CD single [50] " D. I don't hear kellz. Her voice makes love to this sound; this genre. To preface: I backed Squad on Kickstarter just before the first vehicle release and modded Squad from day 1 of the SDK 2017-2019. I have 1. 7k hours logged in game. 1. 5k logged in the SDK. To some those might be a lot, others may find it a little. I have tried getting back into Squad recently but found the game to be lacking a sense of cohesion that used to be present in previous versions. There are many factors that go into this and I will be talking about a couple of them that I think have been reducing the overall gameplay experience. Helicopters: Since this is my area that I worked on when modding, I will start here. Helicopters right now are a joke. Both the flight model and current 'meta' are nonsensical. Currently there are so many ways to spawn in that there's almost no need for transportation besides setting up a FOB at the next point. So instead you have helicopters flying around looking to goomba-stomp the opposing helicopter's rotors for 'epic' video clips. Pilots don't need to fear doing this because of how tanky the helicopter is, and even the projectiles that are capable of damaging it often wind up failing to register damage or wind up hitting the invincible main rotor shield. Ideally for me, Helicopters should be crucial to setting up and maintaining a flank or quickly supporting a push. Squads should be looking to get a lift from the locked (not 5 unlocked) helicopter squad so that they can be re-inserted into a fight. But with the current spawn meta, there's almost no need for a reinsertion. They have stated that this is a sort of "first iteration" of helicopters but I disagree with the mentality of just tossing it onto the backburner to pave way for more shiny features. Helicopters should be based (strictly or loosely) on actual physics, not arbitrary movement curves. There are a lot of mechanics for the helicopters that lean heavily on the arcade side including infinite friction landings, spinouts, massive health pools, and invincible pilots. The first 2 or so minutes of my video showcases how helicopters can be improved with the most basic of additions (). Looking into this SDK, I found this descriptor () which really puts into perspective a lot of the changes that have been taking place. The official Squad Steam store page describes the game as so: "Squad is a tactical FPS that provides authentic combat experiences through teamwork, communication, and gameplay. It seeks to bridge the large gap between arcade shooter and military simulation. " Why is a game that aims to provide "authentic combat experiences" using a flight model based on Battlefield 4 instead of ARMA or RS2? It doesn't need to be insanely realistic simulator quality, but something with mass/momentum and fidelity above "BF4" would be nice. HABCraft/Spawnspam: A key component to victory in the current build is having as many ways to get back into the fight as possible. Rallys, multiple forward HABs, backup HABs, etc. While it's smart to maintain a constant pressure on the objective, the amount of easily accessible spawns fuels the 'giveup urge'. It's easier to just give up and respawn within 10 seconds than wait 60 seconds for a medic. Their mentality being "The quicker I respawn the faster I can start killing more of them so my kills will outweigh the one ticket I spent giving up because THIS TIME I won't die again"; repeat. Points wind up being a sardine pool of bodies spawning in and charging at each other. This diagram illustrates what I'm talking about (). I hope that with dragging coming that they finally decide to slow down the meatgrinder meta of charging into a point from one of the 10 spawns placed around it. Right now defending points is more like a hive than a bunker, people just spawn back in to defend like ants coming out of a hole rather than getting secure positions to ambush or choke attackers. Both attackers and defenders should be conserving every ticket not just because of the ticket-counter but because getting revived should get you back in the fight faster than giving up and respawning. IMO each game mechanic should be balanced around making authenticity fun. Nobody wants to file paperwork in-game, but also having enemies spawn 2 feet in front of you ruins the experience as well. Rally points and HABs are supposed to emulate reinforcements, which is why HABs and rallies shouldn't be allowed to be built on-point. FOBs can still be placed to allow the construction of emplacements but not HABs. You shouldn't be directly seeing enemies as spawnining, but rather as reinforcements. Clearing a town only to have streams of 20+ militia run out of a single house should be replaced by having to watch for backup coming over the hills, because if you lose control of the town you will have to regroup and retry as well, not just respawn directly on top of it with your new rally. Vehicles: Right now there are an abundance of vehicles. Early on in Squad, you had maybe 2 Strykers and 2 BTRs per team. The firepower was limited, but they were important assets for protecting/transporting troops. Now each update keeps adding more and more vehicles to the mains to the point where they had to convert every truck into a logi because nobody bothered using the regular transport version since there are at least 2 IFVs and 3 APCs. There aren't enough infantry to balance it out and often it feels like World of Tanks with vehicles slugging it out rather than supporting an infantry push. The amount of vehicles itself isn't the problem, but the max players needs to be increased to 100 or above. Another major problem is the hitreg. It's a major red flag when you have to be warned that the in-game firing range and multiplayer servers could behave completely differently. There have always been vehicle hitreg problems, but helicopters makes it way more apparent. At times it can be difficult to tell if my shot didn't register, or if the vehicle just absorbed it with an insane HP pool. Shifting Audience: Squad's playercount is at an all time high, but the quality of games is at a low. There is no doubt that many of the newer players have a different mentality towards the game than the veterans. While there's nothing wrong with a casual person picking up Squad, the problem lies in features catered towards those casuals to keep them playing rather than converting them through leadership and tutorials. Some of you may remember this infamous poll where when the community voted yes to keeping dead-dead and then OWI decided to repoll it after some more free weekends to aim for a removal of dead-dead (). I remember the first free weekend Squad Leads were gearing up to teach new players, and there was a positive mentality towards growing the community. Now during a free weekend, I see posts like "welp looks like it's ARMA weekend for me" with less veterans eager to lead the newbies, and I don't blame them. When each match already feels like you are playing with free weekenders, having actual free weekenders added on top of that is too much. These types pool up in no-mic squads so they can lone wolf without worrying about getting kicked, and it's almost impossible for server admins to manage because they aren't allowed to just ban people for no-micing. Casual players picking up Squad isn't the problem, Squad hand-feeding the casual players is. They have no need to adapt to a cautious communicative playstyle when it's so easy to just pop back up and keep on running and gunning. They don't get punished by mechanics for treating the game like anything more than a glorified Battlefield. Modding: This is sort of a bonus one, but I really dislike how modding is handled. There are a lot of things here but I will try to make it digestible. The first issue is the Whitelisting system itself. I have since removed my mod off steam, but at the time it had the most amount of subscribers (80k) out of all of the Squad mods. However, almost 50k of those were from ONE Whitelist free weekend. Nobody played the mod when it was in the custom servers tab. The problem is that it's difficult for modders to retain interest if there is no community support. Now I don't think this is the fault of the actual Squad community at all but rather caused by barriers making mods more of a pain to use than a benefit. A main flaw is how the game/UE4 handles mods by default, which is tying every mod to a layer. This means that if you want to add just one gun to a faction, you need to duplicate all of the existing layers and rack up a massive file size and map list just for one addition, and that addition isn't even cross compatible with other mods (since it's tied down to its own maps/layers). This is why almost every mod is a map, faction, or massive overhaul rather than a single new class, vehicle, or minor set of tweaks. Look at the ARMA workshop, you could have WW2 Germany vs Halo Covenant all while providing air support in a clickable cockpit A-10 in Vietnam. Small modders are discouraged when their mod won't ever be used because nobody is going to switch to a layer just for one new gun. This is important to the future of the game because recently the deflection has been "that sounds like a good idea for a hardcore mod" rather than just de-casualizing the base game. But when you can't even modify the CAF in the SDK a true full-fledged conversion ala ARMA's ACE3 is impossible. The ultimate solution for this is removing the concept of layers and data tables being SDK assets and switching them to an XML format. This way anyone can make a layer without needing to download a 60+ GB SDK (it grows over time too). Communities could create custom missions using an editor similar to ARMA's Eden and place down spawn locations, vehicles, and capture points. If all tables were shifted to XML, they could even extend or rewrite the existing factions and add those small gun/vehicle mods I mentioned above. These custom missions/layers wouldn't replace the existing vanilla game, but would instead give people a reason to use the Custom servers tab. Look how long ARMA managed to sustain itself through mission editing and drop-in modding that anyone could do. I would like to hear what everyone else thinks of Squad gameplay now compared to previous versions or what you ideally would like the game to play like (more arcadey, more sim, exactly the same) Edit: For all the people saying "they should use your mod" or "they should hire you" that's not going to happen. The ~3 or so people there who were interested in collaborating must've just been rogue agents or something!. But the points made in this post should still stand alone regardless.

Rihanna always has these moments where you can tell that she actually can sing she just never really uses her voice to the best of her abilities. For example 5:54. I would love for one day to hear her just SING. Run this town download full text.
